More Playing with Paint. A very ugly bit of pink & purple cotton that resulted from an earlier experiment with scrunch dyeing, stencilled over with Shiva paintsicks. Still ugly.The blue and green fabric is silk, painted and manipulated into folds while still wet, then sprinkled with coarse salt. I've never had much luck dyeing with salt, but this is almost OK. It has a wonderful feel, since it's a very luxurious 11.9 mme silk charmeuse. I'm really getting hooked on working with silk! But what to DO with it, once I've dyed & painted and stamped and stencilled my little heart out on it - I still hate sewing with its squirmy, slithery self!

Silk is a puzzle to me too. I buy pre-finished scarves: that way you can play all you want, and when you are done, they are something to wear...

I would say you are having fun.. but I had to laugh as I read and scrolled through your blog. You sound like me... I did some of the same you did and well... it didn't turn out so good, in my opinion... but others say 'ooh'... so go figure.. haha

Cathy...one way to "tame" slithery silk is to use an ultra-light fusible interfacing. Touch O Gold is (used to be?) available on eQuilter... it is a woven, and you may need to steam it (hold iron 1 inch above and nuke with steam) to preshrink. Iron it to the back of the silk, and presto...no more slithering and slipping. An ultra light non-woven interfacing or one of the tricot fusibles for use with knit fabrics would also work. HTH! Thanks for your comment on my blog; I hope you love the book as much I do. Your fabric is great. I actually love sewing with silk, but then, I don't worry too much about the "slitheriness" of it--if it crinkles or bunches up, I just sew right over that and act like it was on purpose!
